Clubs & Activities

There are a wide variety of After School Clubs offered to the children across the year.  We recognise the contribution these clubs have to the overall learning opportunities we provide for our children and use our Sports Premium funding to heavily subsidise their cost. If you have any questions regarding after school clubs, please contact the school office.

The St Mary's Adventure Plus Award

Our Year 2 children take part in the St Mary's Adventure Plus Award here at school.  The bespoke award provides the children with the opportunity to learn new skills such as archery or bushcraft whilst at the same time developing their team building and leadership skills. It is led by four highly qualified and trained instructors along with our Year 2 staff.  There are eight afternoon sessions each term and in the summer our children visit the Adventure Plus Clanfield site to have an incredible day of outdoor adventure.

We use our Sports and PE premium to provide the Year 2 children with the opportunity to go to the Windrush Leisure Centre for swimming lessons in the summer term. Swimming is not part of the PE Key Stage 1 curriculum but at St Mary's we believe that this is an important life-skill to learn.

Forest School

Our Forest School sessions are led by Mr Hazel, an experienced Forest School Leader and teacher and our held at Cogges Manor Farm. Throughout the year each Reception and Year 1 child attends eight afternoon sessions and are encouraged to work with others to carry out activities such as den/shelter building. They also participate in role play and explore and carry out practical and creative skills and tasks.

May Day Dancing

clubs and activities 1 Every year St Mary's comes together with The Batt Primary School on the Church Green to perform dances around the maypole and take part in traditional May Day dancing. The children work hard during PE lessons in the summer term to learn these dances.

The Witney Partnership

We buy into the Witney PE Partnership to enable all our children to participate in PE festivals and tournaments with other local schools.  This year our Year 1 children will participate in a Dance festival, Reception will take part in Athletics and Year 2, The Ultra Olympics. These events are delivered by Sports’ Leaders from Henry Box Secondary School.
